Catalysts and Residents

Programs are participatory and collaborative

About The Edge

The Edge is Queensland’s digital culture centre for experimentation in design, art, technology and enterprise. It opened in February 2010 and supports artists, technologists, thinkers, writers, designers, musicians and entrepreneurs through workshops, labs, lectures, outreach, education, industry partnerships and a collaborative curatorial framework.

Recruitment for Catalyst positions will re-open in 2011.
Please visit the Edge website for information on what The Edge is looking for in this round and how to apply.

Catalysts

Catalysts get unlimited access to the open spaces and resources at The Edge. In return they play the role of mentors, inspiring and facilitating the development of new creative work by young people.

Individual Catalysts will be selected in each of these strategy areas:

Catalysts are engaged for six months (1 in each strategy area) and are required to be on site at least one day per week. Catalysts will produce work in their own area(s) of practice and  are responsible for sharing what they do and how they work with a new generation of creative practitioners via workshops with the general public as well as partner organisations and community groups.

Residents

Do you have a great idea for a creative project and need resources to work on it?
The Edge has a number of residencies to offer to prominent and emerging visionaries in their fields.

Unlike Catalysts, you won’t be expected to run the day to day programming of The Edge. You’ll propose a project and we will support you to do it. We ask in return than you share your creative process through some kind of public outcome such as workshops, exhibitions, lectures, event or documentation and that you acknowledge The Edge in all future displays.

Your residency can be for flexible hours and as short as two weeks or as long as six months. You can spend that time researching, producing work, performing, developing an events or an installation at The Edge. Like our Catalysts we’d encourage you to document and share your work through social media and generally ensure that as many people as possible can access what you’re doing.

As a resident, you’re not working for The Edge but through The Edge on your own project. We can provide a project stipend, assist you with seeking other support, and assist with travel and accommodation if you are from outside Brisbane.

You’ll have 24/7 access to The Edge facilities and the support of The Edge team, the State Library and our partners for technical, curatorial, and collaborative support. Residents will be selected based on the project they propose and your role will be determined by your project.
