We’ll provide studio space, funding, personnel, audiences and technological tools you’ve been daydreaming about. We’ll even pay you!
About The Edge
The Edge is Queensland’s new digital culture centre for experimentation in design, art, technology and enterprise that will open in February 2010. The Edge will support artists, technologists, thinkers, writers, designers and entrepreneurs through workshops, labs, lectures, outreach, education and industry partners and a collaborative curatorial vision.Situated at South Bank on the Brisbane River, The Edge is a multi platform space, equipped with cutting edge production tools for collaborative content production in sound, media, and image. The Edge programs will connect across Queensland and around the world but we need the right people to do it.
The Edge is current calling for our first group of Catalysts and Residents.
Catalysts
The Edge’s “Catalysts” are the people who animate The Edge and drive the programming. They work in the Edge and we call them catalysts because they are responsible for making interesting things happen. Catalysts will have full access to the all the resources of The Edge and will act as mentors to the people working out of the space.
Catalysts' roles are paid jobs for 1 day a week for 6 months (or equivalent). In that time you will be expected to assist with The Edge’s programming. That will involve inspiring and facilitating the development of new creative work by young people through organising workshops, events, exhibitions and presentations. You’ll also be expected to document and share your work through blogging, twitter, and other social media so as many people as possible can access what you’re doing. You’ll have access to a budget for workshop and presentation materials depending on what you want to do and you’ll have extended access to the facilities and equipment at the Edge. The Edge team and its partners will be able to provide you with technical, curatorial and collaborative support. Regional applicants can apply as Satellite Catalysts or negotiate travel assistance.

Residents
Do you have a great idea for a creative project and need resources to work on it? The Edge has a number of residencies to offer to prominent and emerging visionaries in their fields. Unlike Catalysts, you won’t be expected to run the day to day programming of The Edge. You’ll propose a project and we will support you to do it. We ask in return than you share your creative process through some kind of public outcome such as workshops, exhibitions, lectures, event or documentation and that you acknowledge The Edge in all future displays.Your residency can be for flexible hours and as short as 2 weeks or as long as 6 months. You can spend that time researching, producing work, performing, developing an events or an installation at The Edge. Like our Catalysts we’d encourage you to document and share your work through social media and generally ensure that as many people as possible can access what you’re doing.
As a resident, you’re not working for The Edge but through The Edge on your own project. We can provide a project stipend (approximately $200 per week), assist you with seeking other support, and assist with travel and accommodation if you are from outside Brisbane. You’ll have 24/7 access to The Edge facilities and the support of The Edge team, SLQ and our partners for technical, curatorial, and collaborative support. Residents will be selected based on the project they propose and your role will be determined by your project.
